Summary of article:
In this article we hear of the treatment of school girls within Tanzania. Most parents tend to blame poverty, however some belive it is just selfishness. A story is told about a young girl that became friends with a man who promised her nice things, however she was called on to return the favor once in a while. She finds that she is now pregnant with his child. She blames her parents for not providing her with the proper education, and wishes everyday that she had never been born
My reaction:
This kind of treatment of women in this culture, as well as any other culture is heart nreaking. It might very well be that the family is poor and can not provide everything that the school girl needs, however they should care enough about their child to inform them of the dangers of these relationships with grown men. There is no excuse for being absent minded when it comes to your children.
Relationship to culture
The treatment of women is in every culture. And this particular aspect of a culture changes often. In the American culture, for example, when the country was founded women were home bodies. Only to be seen not ever to be heard, especially about "men's" business. Now a woman is just as, if not more, successful than a man. And in America, a true force to be heard and taken seriously. In every culture the treatment of women differs, and has a lot to do with religious, political, and traditional beliefs.
