Summary of the article:
It was not until the 18th century that there were evidence of Hebrew news papers. These papers were mainly about the Haskalah that is the Jewish enlightenment. There were many attempts at making the language "live". These attepts were not succesful for a while. Although in the 19th century people attempted to use the language more, it often led to grammatical errors futher taking the language away from its original interpritations. In Pakistan the Hebrew language was considerd a Lingua Franca, or a common language, however it was not widely accepted.
My reaction:
By reading this article it is obvious that the Hebrew language is now contaminanted with millions of interpritations and it is hard to tell what is what. Although millins are working hard to bring it back to its former glory it has been a hard fought battle, thanks to years of wrong translation. By not fully understanding or having comparisons to the languages translations loose their meaning, and sometimes there over all importance. This is a devistating thing for the culture of the Hebrew language because if this continues like it has for so many years the language will no longer be Hebrew at all. We must work to preserve the true meanings of Hebrew writings, or this language will become extinct.
Relationship with Culture:
With the ever present danger of loosing its native language, Israel is trying to fix it. This is related to their culture because it is their official language. By having so many errors in translation future relations with other nations could be in danger. Language relates to culture because the language of a contry it specific to its position on the Earth, and is a commonality with their fellow speakers.
